Awesome. Although I’m a bit worried about seeing Laurel Sauer in HD.
I’m sure all 4 West Palm stations will have their newscasts in HD when analog is shut off in ’09. So this is a good start. The standard logo will probably still be used in tandem with this one…if this is their new newscast logo.
Kudos to WPTV. Seems the smaller markets are running all over the “major” markets as far as technology is concerned.
So where is local HD in MIA/FTL, a supposedly _major_ market (at least moreso than Orlando – WFTV or West Palm Beach – WPTV)? Nowhere to be found. All we have in MIA/FTL is Stretch-O-Vision on WPLG-DT and WSVN-DT. Absolutely pitiful.

So, let’s see…
First in Orlando, WFTV (ABC)
First in Tampa, WFTS (Also ABC)
First in West Palm Beach, WPTV (NBC)
My prediction for first in Miami,
WPLG Local 10. It would also be fun if WPLG hired Bill Ratner (WFLA, WPBF, WESH) to be their voice over.
I doubt WPLG will go full HD before they move to the new building in June 2009
I’m almost sure it will be NBC6. I’ve received surveys from NBC asking about watching news in HD.
thanks to my $8 rabbit ear antenna, I’ve been watching WPTV at 6 and 11pm. Looks good. a bit better than NBC and CBS HD in NYC ( I get NY feeds via DIRECTV). The weather package is very cool; graphics are great. Cant wait unti someone in our narket pulls the trigger…I have Stretch-o-vision.
Yay for WESY PALM BEACH leading the way!
