I do not completely trust these online stats tools. They only sample from a limited number of internet users and use some fancy shmanzy mathematics to come up with an average but nonetheless here’s how the local news station sites stack up against each other according to Compete. Compete says their sample is from users using the Compete toolbar and from clickstream data from 2,000,000+ internet users.
Short of peeking at each station’s traffic logs we’ll never know who’s truly the most visited local tv news site.
The number of people visiting the sites monthly from 05/2006 to 05/2007:
cbs4. com – 150,206, NBC6.net – 103,524, wsvn.com – 84,768, local10.com – 108,498
It appears CBS4.com had a pretty nice traffic surge due the Anna Nicole story.
Update:
I decided to compare what this service says about this blog vs traffic logs. They say 3,251 visitors per month when in fact it’s 3 times that. So I guess someone’s math is off 😀
