Why are the media such damn cry babies? Why do they think that they are above the law somehow because they are “news” reporters?
If you are covering a situation (in this case a rally for CRIMINALS) that turns in to a riot and you make a decision to ignore the police, then you deserve a baton across the head, just like anyone else. Those reporters and photographers made a decision, the wrong one.
Some of those stupid news crews ignored the police and stood around in front of lights and monitors trying to do a live remote. I guess those idots thought that in the middle of a riot the police would just stop, chat a little bit, be polite and then ask them to leave. Right.
Reporter 101: When cops in riot gear approach you with batons and tell you to leave, it is best to leave, not stand there in front of the camera.
Just because you have a camera does not give you license to ignore police during a riot. I am sure the LA media went after the cops because they got their heads bashed in instead of being allowed to ignore a police order.
Cheers to the LAPD for breaking out the batons and riot gear and trying to put a stop to an out of control rally for criminals. Yes, if you are here illegally you are a criminal. If you ignore a cop in riot gear who tells you to move then you are a fool.
From what I’ve seen it wasn’t a riot until the police started shooting rubber bullets at people with kids. Even the LA Chief said the use of force was excessive.
The key phrase there is “what you have seen”. But what you didn’t see on TV is the protesters hurling bottles of urine (fact) and rocks and other weapons at the police. That is what touched it off. For some reason though I never heard those facts on any alphabet network.
That’s the problem. What they chose to show you ain’t necessarily what really happened.
This is what happens when you believe what you see on TV and it is your only source of news.
As for the Chief, they also didn’t tell you he has aspirations of running for mayor. Also, what they didn’t tell you is that during the LA/King riots the police were ordered to not do anything. As a result rioting thugs and mayhem swept through the city uncontrollably and many people were killed as a result. I probably gave you more facts here than anyone on the tube ever will.
Here’s actually a very good article about it from the LA Times. It does mention bottles were thrown at police by a group of “agitators.”
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-ex-lapd4may04,0,4071224.story?coll=la-home-headlines
these agitators could have easily been anti-immigrant bigots, wouldn’t put it past them at all
Admin,
Wow admin, I guess we know you’re position on the matter. I guess if you oppose ILLEGAL immigration you are a bigot? Sounds like you wish that is what the article said. But it didn’t.
There is a vast difference between immigrants and illegal immigrants. One is a term used by people who abide by our laws and the other refers to people who have commited a criminal act. I don’t think asking people to immigrate leaglly makes you a bigot. That’s a big jump. But is sounds like you are prejudiced against Americans.
Theres one thing to be prejudice against americans but what i belive Mr. Admin is caring for all people of the world, from another country or not. We were all immirants to this country before the american revolution – and if people from other oountries want to start a life in our great country – why stop them?? I understand u dont want to see people entering hte country illegaly – it puts burden on many different people – the government who has to (or should) track them down, employers who dont know whether or not to hire a person b/c they might be illegal. But the point is the rally was for immigration reform – not to say lets let everyone come in illegally – admin just has a problem with people that think because someone else looks or sounds different then you or I – then they are the enemy. Your right Bobbie – there is a vast difference – but the rally was working to change the law – not break it.
BobbieB I just said what was on my mind, as usual, but let me elaborate 🙂
There are anti-immigrant bigots, or anti-latino or whatever you want to call them who want their America pure, and free of Latinos. Who go apeshit over how Latinos, or is it just Mexicans, are ‘overrunning’ this country. The funny thing though is it was during Reagan and Bush that most of the undocumented immigrants came to this country. Politicians need issues like this to stir up the base. They’ve been doing something about immigration since …. ummm 1980s? That outta tell you something.
Besides didn’t the English immigrate here illegally and kill all the Indians?
That said, I too am against uncontrolled immigration. And I get a bit miffed I had to pay thousands of USD to immigrate here legally and had to wait 8 hours in 10F temps to get my papers, but life’s not always fair.
I’ve seen the anti-immigrant, or should say anti-latino bigotry first hand. When I was a young boy and came here people used to tell me they were so glad to have me, and that I was white! Context was something like ‘We sure are glad you are a white immigrant boy’. I’ll spare the rest. Sure, twas in the deep south but still …
The anti-immigrant crowd has some valid points though – the borders must be closed, it’s ridiculous how lax enforcement is. You can’t blame people desperate for a better life taking advantage. And everyone should learn fucking English some of us had to do it in 3 months and we still lived.
End of rant.
Admin,
Your experience with bigotry has nothing to do with people who have entered the country illegally. Seperate issue. Being against illegal immigration, whether they come from Europe or South America, is not bigotry. It’s law. If I go to Mexico illegally and they arrest me, (and they would) would that make Mexicans bigots against Anglos? No. If I violate their laws I deserve it.
You said, “Besides didn’t the English immigrate here illegally and kill all the Indians?”
No, they didn’t kill all the Indians. They had plenty of support from the Spanish. And Indians were not one group. They killed eachother long before we arrived.
I’ll assume you are Hispanic from what you wrote. I am sure you know the reason why you speak Spanish is because Spainiards came to the New World (they came before the British) and they were exceptionally brutal. They didn’t sit down to turkey dinners with Indians. They simply robbed, raped and murdered them out of existance throughout the Americas.
If I were you I would give credit to the British. They are the ones after all that wrote the very documents that give us the freedoms so many people around the world wish to live under. Hence, the American dream was founded by Englishmen, not Spaniards.
I do agree that you should be angry at those that who cheat our immigration laws. However, I disagree that it is anti hispanic or bigoted to be against illegal immigration. I know many people from Europe who have tried for years to go through the immigration process to get a green card and spend thousands. Guess what? They are white Europeans. It is the Hispanics that have been given free reign and been shown favoritism. No one is favored more than Cubans when it comes to immigration.
So, all of this talk of bigotry sounds good, but it just isn’t supported by the facts. Dull minded TV news people like to portray it as bigotry and the illegals as victims, but that just is not supported by the facts.
By the way, I like this blog!
The issue of immigration cannot be viewed as separate from bigotry, they are intertwined. Should our borders be better protected? Of course…but why the fuss now and not 5, 10 yrs ago? Illegal immigration didn’t just become rampant, but it just seems that those with short attention spans have just been pointed in this direction to keep their focus off of other things. Maybe some people just figured out that hispanics will one day be the majority and are trying to slow it down anyway they can? Fear of change? Of people that don’t look like you? After all there is no outcry over the lax security on the Canadian border.
“People with kids?!” It’s an illegal immigration rally in LA. They all have kids
