Jimmy Cefalo To Leave WPLG

4

Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports Jimmy Cefalo is leaving WPLG. Cefalo has decided not to renew his contract with Channel 10, his last day with the station is sometime in September.

Asked what he’ll do next Cefalo says he’ll focus on his wine business and that “his loyalties are with the Dolphins and WQAM”. Will Manso will be taking over Cefalo as main sports anchor.

  1. Cefalo was the best sportscaster in town in my opinion- knowledgeable, credible and a straight shooter, not too flashy like the guy at Channel 7.
Have respect for Will Manso, he’s a good guy but this again tells the tale of Channel 10 – force out the credible news talent (Doug Dunbar, Mark Schumacher, John Gerard) for someone making about 1/10 of his salary, thinking no one will know the difference. Sad but true.

  2. Hank Goldberg from WQAM pointed out that Local 10 is not big on sports. Jimmy leaving the station is further proof. Now that the Heat are no longer playing this season, Local 10 could care less about any ABC sports coverage being aired. Jimmy is a big talent on the radio and on the screen. I hope he gets another shot on tv, but I don’t know what station he’d fit into.
