4 Dispatched Crew To Texas For Storm Coverage

7

Not sure why but CBS4 has dispatched Brian Andrews and crew to Houston to cover the tropical storm there. He’s filing reports today. I think so far they’re the only local news crew sent there.

And of course if Dean stays on track for the Yucatan look for everyone to send their crews there.

Update: WFOR’s crew is in Texas to cover the storm for CBS Newspath because their correspondents are in Utah. Also, CBS Newspath will be relying on CBS4 for Hurricane Dean coverage – they’ll be providing live shots and reports to CBS affiliates across the country.

Also look for a lot of web exclusive reports and video on CBS4.com in the days ahead and during storm coverage.

  1. Wait, here is a reporter’s script for the storm (and every other one)

    Reporter:
….the wind is blowing, sounds like a freight train, the rain feels like needles on my face, don’t venture out, only specially trained reporters like myself are equipted to stand out in the rain and blowing debris and tell you that it is too unsafe for you to do so.

…..Wait, there is a puddle, let me go stand in it for my next on camera appearence!

  2. Also, this is the perfect audition for Bryan Andrew’s jump to either working full time for CBSNewspath, or any other national news outlet…

It’s only a matter of time before he joins the rest of the WFOR exodus….

  3. Brian does this for newspath all the time, its not an audition. He did all last hurricane season, and he regular reports for them whenever he’s working a story out of DC (case in point: Proenza/NHC)

Newspath didn’t dispatch him though, WFOR wanted to send him anyway and managed to finagle Newspath to pick up a majority of the tab

  4. You know…. damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
If the stations don’t send anyone, then we’ll hear the complaints…”I remember years ago when they would send folks everywhere, blah blah blah…”

Now you complain that they do.

Maybe those of you inside should come up with better ideas and suggestions instead of complaining.

    Chao

  5. I heard Brian and crew head back to Texas tomorrow night to await Dean. I remember in Katrina, he ran out in the winds and hid behind a mailbox, only to be blown flat on his face. I wonder what stunt he’ll try this time.
