Why Not Two Guys at Once?

20

7News at 4 started today with Craig Stevens by himself, Lynn was off (at the last minute?). It was an all guy newscast – Craig, Reed, Rosh Lowe, Dave Kartunen, Phil Ferro and Louis Aguirre.

Now at 4:30 Reed Cowan and Robin Simmons took over.

So if Reed Cowan was there, why not pair him up with Crag to anchor together until, and I’m just guessing here, Robin Simmons made it to the station in time?

There’s a guy-guy anchor team + meteorologist in Houston and it seems to be working for them.

So why not two guys anchoring here, even in rare times like today? Would having a two-guy anchor team really turn off the female demo?

I thought the 4pm with Craig by himself wasn’t bad at all – felt much calmer than 7News is at this time of the day even with the blaring ‘Developing Story’ bumps.

  1. I totally agree CBS 4 does it. Why does WSVN not ever want to put 2 guys or 2 female anchors together?????

  2. 2 guys together on tv just looks weird…

this must’ve been a last minute emergency for them to start a newscast with just one anchor…i can almost promise you that someone had to go home sick and robbin was probably called in from out in the field…

  3. TV history 101:
50 years ago ALL anchors were guys.
Then Huntley and Brinkley came along and many
stations went to 2 male anchors. (7 had Wayne Farris and Richard Whitcomb to go with the NBC H/B report).
Then somewhere along the way in the very late ’70’s and
early ’80’s the “Ken and Barbie” anchor teams appeared.
It has been that way ever since. ABC even
tried it with Harry Reasoner and Barbra Walters teamed up.

  4. Why do some people, like Mr. Ed, and Mr. AJ from Boston TV…. have their name in blue–b/c they have their own blogs??? or is their another reason, i click on AJ’s name and it takes me to his site, clik on eds name it takes me to a blank page fltv.com, which dosent exit. To most of u I probably sound really doumb, but the only stupid question is the one that dosent get asked, so im asking?

  5. I seem to remember WFOR having Rob n George anchor together. I also remember WPLG having Dwight n Charles together. So why won’t WSVN put Belkys n Lynn together or Craig n Reed together? I mean they use to have Lynn n Beatriz and Lynn n Marilyn. I for one would rather see 2 anchor teams wether man n man ,man n woman or woman n woman . If I wanted a one person anchor newscast I would watch WTVJ and heaven knows nobodys watchin Jackie n her one woman show.

  6. Like somebody said earlier, two men together look weird. I dont think WSVN has a problem putting two women together. As somebody else right pointed out, Christine Cruz and Diana Diaz anchor pair up in the mornings and noon. Also, Lynn Martinez and Beatrice Canals teamed up for 5:30 and 6:30 before Canals left.

The dialogue flows better with one man-one woman or two women thant it does with two men. The man says something nice, the woman give her cute chuckle. Not sure my explanation makes sense as explained, but its bottomline is that its weird. Even when I see it on other station.

  7. CBS4 at 6pm….Jawan Strader and Elliott Rodriguez anchoring. They stumbled at the get-go, but are doing well now.

  8. I Think WSVN is taking the cable news route 1 Male 1 Female and when one is out its a one man show(either Male or Female)… Just like what CNN does!

  9. I watch WFOR tonight n once again they had Jawan n Elliott. If u ask me they did just as good a job as a male n female or all female team. It also seems to me that more stations should try a all female or all male team. After all it sure as hell couldn’t hurt. Maybe WTVJ should try it with Tony n Joel n booot Jackie lord knows It couldn’t hurt there pathetic ratings.

  10. They don’t put two men together anymore because news has become feminized and politically corrected. Back in the days when two men would anchor they wouldn’t do half of idiotic useless stories they do now. In fact then it was called news. Now all they care about is stories. If two straight men ran the show we would see no more Paris, Britany or germs on the doorknob stories. And that would be a good thing.

If there were more hard news females like Ann Bishop it would be different. But instead we get attractive women with breast implants who get into the business to

    a) find a wealthy husband
    b) get a good table on the beach
    c) earn enough money to shop and buy clothes
    d) earn enough money to get a real good plastic surgeon.

There are no women here who are into hard news, no Ann Bishop types. Most are lightweights who couldn’t name their own mayor, but could tell you the best plastic surgeons in town.

It would be nice if there were some aspiring Ann Bishop types, but there are none. Just a bunch of mutants with enormous breasts and stretched out clown faces.

Ann was a hard looking woman. Not attractive in the slightest, but she was trusted and she had RATINGS.

    • Hey Geraldo, it’s me Craig!

What you wrote may appear cynical, but you are so right. You obviously know the biz.

Ann Bishop earned people’s trust. WSVN viewers trust them. They trust Craig Stephens. Viewers trust Fox News far more than CNN or MSNBC. I’m not saying it’s rational or that they should trust someone they don’t know on TV, but they do, and it shows in the ratings.

No one trusts the bimbo types with comically sized breasts who dress for a morning news show like they are about to hit the clubs.

There are more “hot” women on local TV then ever before, yet people watch and trust TV news less then they ever have. It’s not as valuable a commodity as some news execs think. It’s much easier for a news exec to hire someone who is hot then to find someone who has talent and can garner an audience.

And there is one absolute when it comes to breast implants (implants are daily guests on most Miami news shows): The women who get them want to show them off. That’s why they bought them. They didn’t get implants to hide them in a baggy shirt or to keep them in private. TV news just isn’t the place for that.

The female pioneers of the local news didn’t break through the male dominated news culture with implants and high heels. The women of that era were more serious people (Ann was one of them). Dressing up like you are going to a club would of been demeaning to women like Ann and others of her era that paved the way for the current breast implant types.

It’s sort of funny that an unattractive, chain smoking lesbian anchor/journalist still owns the marketplace in terms of credibility over the current crop of hot hetero breast implanters. And she’s been dead for over 15 years!

  11. Even the local Fox WOFL 35 here in Orlando had 2 male anchors the other night on it. Wake up WSVN !!!!!! Sometimes u have to do what u got to do and that may mean pairing 2 guys together.
