WNBC – NBC affiliate in New York City have made use of their digital spectrum by creating a new channel called 4.4. The new channel will showcase independent original production.
KTVX – ABC affiliate in Utah have named their newly created channel ‘The Hive‘ with a slogan “Sweet TV”.
Looks like WNBC’s production is local, but it could very well be something that came down from the network. I would not be surprised if NBC6 tries the same thing here in South Florida. But would anybody watch? There’s some interest but I don’t think any of these digital channels will draw a significant crowd there is too many other channels out there and that internets thing.

The digital Weather Plus Channel on TVJ is good. It is good to get local at a glance instead of waiting up to 10 mins with weather channel. and, if you sat., like I, you don’t get local with WC.
Other than that, there are too many other channels to amuse one’s mind.
I punch up weatherunderground.com and get what I want right away 🙂
WeatherPlus (WTVJ-DT 6.2) is sort of like an OTA version of The Weather Channel, as it’s definitely not “local at a glance” – especially the main screen, which is national at times. More often than not I have to wait at least a few minutes to cycle through other parts of Florida to get to FTL or MIA.
Going to the PC to get a weather report is a PITA IMO, because I simply don’t have the PC on all the time.
One of the best sub-channels IMO is WFLX-DT 29.2. They run “The Tube”, which is what MTV and VH-1 were like when they first started out – music videos all the time.
