Here’s what’s going to happen:
– WB39 will become the unified channel – The CW, perhaps called CW39 who knows.
– UPN33 will become an independent station and will probably be known as WBFS – Channel 33 or something like that.
UPN33/WBFS is owned by CBS/Viacom, CBS4/WFOR will continue to produce the 10pm newscasts, but considering CBS4 bosses just got the news today nothing is 100% certain. as before
CBS4 reports on the changes – Changes On The Dial: UPN and WB Merge
This should be interesting because CW 39 would now be owned by Viacom. Hmmmm
no
Channel 39 is still owned by Tribune, it’s affiliation will be CW network owned 50-50 CBS/Warner Bros
Also of note, Adam… Viacom no longer owns CBS. As of 2006, CBS is now owned by the newly-formed CBS Corporation. The two split into independent companies. Viacom took the cable nets and the movie studio. CBS has the broadcast nets, theme parks, outdoor advertising, radio, KingWorld, and MUCH more.
Have you noticed the ads for channels 23 and 39 on “CBS” billboards? They’re all over the Palmetto.
Viacom Outdoor Advertising. They own the billboards in a lot of places
Exactly the point I was making earlier, Murrow. Those billboards probably all used to say “Viacom” on them. But since CBS Corporation took the outdoor advertising division of Viacom when the split happened, those billboards will all now say “CBS” instead of Viacom.
Yes, Jason, I was supporting your point.
So, Will channel 39’s call letter be changed because of this? Going even as far as reverting back to calling it WDZL perhaps? Just a thought..
Maybe they’ll change to WCZL.
Back in the days before UPN, channel 33 used to brand itself as “TV 33”. Maybe they’ll do that when they go indy again in the fall. Wouldn’t mind seeing them revert back to the old pre-UPN “33” logo too, which was pretty cool.
Will they be at http://www.cw39.com ?
