An article in the Miami Herald explains what the local news outlets are doing to prepare for this hurricane season. WTVJ and WSVN have installed fuel tanks on-site for employees to re-fuel when needed so they can get to work, and for news vechicles.
According to the Herald 7 has spent over $1 million dollars on hurricane preparedness this year and have built a special broadcast transmission center on the 2nd floor in case the studios downstairs got flooded.
WTVJ are installing shutters on top of their hurricane resistant windows and WPLG has purchased a state-of-the-art weather computer programs. The Herald mentions WTJV’s “Weather Plus Hurricane Hummer” which is actually from last year, not this on.
7 has made arrangements to air it’s hurricane programming on Cox radio stations across South Florida, WTVJ has an agreenment with Beasley Broadcast Group.
The newspaper outlets are also putting gas tanks on site, and some are arranging with local gas stations who have generators to give them fuel when needed.

Who is partnering up with Clear Channel?
Nice list Brandon
No idea who partnered up with Clear Channel. Y100 is pretty big someone surely partnered with them. Although on Y100’s site I see they’re dolling out some hurricane guide with a company that sells generators, no TV stations mentioned
WIOD is a clear channel station, unless I fell asleep or something
David I think your right but I found that on my list its at coxradio.com or you can google it. I think according to last hurricane season they partenered up with Local 10 (WPLG). But I didnt like the fact that they partnered up I was trying to fall asleep with a very good smooth jazz radio station known as Love 94 but (if memory serves me right) they were feeding off of Local 10. GO HEAT!!!!
admin, I listen to Y-100 all the time and that commercial is driving me NUTS!!! Its the same guy with the annoying voice from the Oxy-Clean and the Orange Clean and the CLR commercials. Well their promoting affordable home generators. I think its a great idea but I already have 3 so I dont need another one. They did partner up with a huge generator company I dont remember the name of the company but damn is that guy annoying or what?
Beasley owns WQAM-AM 560, not WIOD.
Thanks alot murrow
WIOD is definitely Clear Channel–I used to listen to Mega 103.5 (which was another Clear Channel station) and right after 9/11, they carried WIOD’s feed.
Michael,
That $1 Million was probably spent on that 2nd control room that’s above ground so they can still broadcast in the event of a flood.
control room is already on the second floor
Yeah Bill Kamal gave it away a couple of years ago by them having the wrong graphic on the chroma key and he said “Sorry Upstairs” =)
Not necessarily. The weather office (with all the weather computers) is on the first floor, across the hall from the studio.
I understand that DJB thats where they work and gather all advisories and work on check the temps. Sports is based out of there too. But, (the all famous but) the Graphics is based out of where? The Control Room which is on the second floor.
MOST of the graphics come from the control room on the second floor (ie, everything but weather). The weather graphics come from the weather computer in the weather office. All other motion graphics are on tape, and the stills come from Chyron.
