It also is where WPLG 10 has a building and their transmitter.came very close to theirs.
Looks like CBS4 has theirs there also, do they have backup transmitters anywhere, and can they broadcast via satellite to the cable companies?
I think all the major stations fiber their signals to the cable companies, so that’s not a problem when the tower goes down. But I don’t think anyone down here has a backup transmitter. But I could be wrong. Of the major stations down here, only Channel 6’s tower isn’t at the Dade-Broward antenna farm. It’s in deep South Dade — right next to an actual farm.
Does the tower in 7’s parking lot actually work? I know it was part of the old WIOD building, but do they actually use it?
the tower you are referring to I think was on top of the newsplex. There’s another two towers outside but they sit on land.
7 was in a scuffle with WOID for leaving the tower to deteriorate to the point it had rusted bolts and parts of it falling on the cars below.
Looks like it was fixed, since it survived Katrina and Wilma.
