10 again with their 2 weather dudes at once

I still don’t know why they’re doing this, so if anyone does please englighten us.
First they have Don Noe giving current conditions, then pops Trent telling me about the weather tonight, 3 day and 7 day forecast all in about 10 seconds. Besides providing a really fast paced forecast I don’t see a reason they do it.

  1. One word…consultants.

It started in smaller markets a few years ago. It’s meant to showcase the weather “team.” Supposedly, Ch. 10 cares more about weather than the competition because they’ve got TWO people working. And Lord help us if you ever see THREE in the weather center.

  2. Actually, 10 has Don Noe, who is as good as ever…John Guaraldi, who is the best dressed on-air guy in the market, BESIDES knowing his stuff…then we have Trent, who seems like he’s desperate for people to listen to him, over-gesturing and trying very hard to “communicate.” Megan Glaros is a cupcake who can’t stand up straight, and Jacey Birch is another face. But then this is the station who inflicts Jen Herrera on us for traffic, as if reading a street map requires another body on the set. Compare that to 4, where Bryan Norcross apparently hires legit weather people whose knowledge comes across. Tune in 4 anytime during a weather “crisis” and someone who knows their stuff is on, not just Bryan. Lest we forget Bryan’s performance during Andrew, which I will be ever grateful for…but every station is trying to force their guy on us hoping to make the same kind of impression on audiences. Paul Deanno, at 6, is first rate…I hope he doesn’t get a chance to shine too soon, but he sure seems up to it. His first step to that end might be letting Lonnie Quinn wash the Weather Plus Hummer, keeping him off the set during real weather emergencies. One more thing…I would watch Trina Robinson if she was just reading the Yellow Pages. A thinking man’s hottie, forgive me for saying so.

  3. I thought I heard/read somewhere that it was to gradually transition the viewers over to Trent from Don, as Don will be retiring soon. No idea if it’s true…

  4. You know, we have the same problem here in North Texas. Our local ABC station (WFAA Dallas-Fort Worth) does the exact same thing on their latenight newscast. Of course, the word on the street here is that WFAA’s longtime Cheif Meteorologist Troy Dungan is about to retire soon, within the next few years (he’s in his late 50s/early 60s and has been with the station a good 15 or 20 years). This maybe a slow transition, instead of Here Today Gone Tomorrow, which a lot of focus groups and viewers in general react very negatively to.

  5. troy dungan has been there at least 30 years as i lived in dallas from 1977-1993, just a correction to joseph cherry
