oh joy….
That’s great news for south florida…….the guy is involved in the community…….represents the gay community with class………good move for 7.
Good for Craig. A class act and a veteran Miami personality. While he’s a great anchor, he was truely one of 7’s best in the field. It would be cool to see him “shake and bake” again. Also, today’s Craig Stevens is much more low key than the weekend anchor of years gone back. Bring back the energy! Still, a solid anchor and total Miami personality.
Is that why neither Craig nor Brent Cameron have been on for the last four days? They’ve been off celebrating together? Damn…
thats good. Any news on weather or not he and belksy are going to host the 4pm news cast or well it be lynn and tom?
Water seeking its level. 7 is great if you are illiterate in both English and Spanish. Craig is in a class by himself–kindergarten. Belkys=amateur. Watching 7’s news product while honest pros like Kimberly Dozier and Bob Woodruff are overseas risking their lives for real news makes me sick. I am sure Ann Bishop and Ralph Renick spin in their graves when they see what passes for journalism in this town.
Someone ate too many lemons today?
Maybe we should send every lead anchor in this market to Iraq
Yeah that will learn them for sure
Geez, what’s up your @$$ ccc229? In case you don’t know it, Miami is an aggressive local news town where breaking news dominates. Will New York news work down here? Probably not.
And is it really necessary to bring up Kimberly Dozier or Bob Woodruff? They are fine journalists but Craig Stevens is too. He worked very hard to get where he is now and from what I hear, he is a great person overall.
No lemons here. Just disappointed another cute, funny guy (meaning Brent) gets taken off the market. Leaves so little hope for me.
since when did brent enter the conversation anon, unless craig and himself date but regardless, thats besides the point. good for craig, he was great while in boston and im sure hes just as good if not better down there.
Maybe I was trying to find out if they ARE dating. I’ve read others make comments like that here before and somebody seemed to be “in the know”. It just seemed too much of a coincidence they were both off during Memorial Day weekend.
If you would like me to comment otherwise: I’m afraid I agree with qwert and cc229. I don’t care if it is 7; gay or straight, involved in the community or not, any man or woman who can sit there with a smile on his face, a “smile” in his voice, and his nose in the air as if everything is a joke, reporting a story about someone losing their life while the survivors wail for their loved one has me worried. If the anchor can smile at that tragedy, what do they do for fun? What would horrify them?
Take Lynn and Tom, or better yet Sharron and Charles, or even Adam Williams. They know when to lighten up and have fun, but most importantly, they know when to clam up and be somber. I see Craig and Belkys at the desk, and I’m reminded of the annoying little boy and girl in grade school who had to share a table. Constantly teasing each other, talking loudly, disrupting the class, yet somehow managing to be teacher’s pets and held up as “leaders”.
I’m not bitter, I’m not a basher; I’m a gay man who prefers integrity in journalism.
Maybe you should try to keep to the topic.
Who’s dating who isn’t relevant to this post, or this site.
that’s why there are 4 stations (anglo) in this market so you can choose which one appeals to you. You don’t like Craig or Belkys you go to watch Dwight and Laurie etc..
I’ve never seen Craig smile on a serious story, Craig is Mr. Serious 99% of the time and only recently started to loosen up and joke with Belkys. I’ve never seen her do a happy delivery on serious news either. She might have smiled at the begning of a serious story when beforehand they were joking about something.
7’s newscast isn’t a Murrow Production. I have bones to pick with the story choices but I do like it when Belkys makes off the cuff comments since most of the time those are the same things I’m thinking and she’s just as sarcastic as I am 🙂
Both bantering and joking around with Craig breaks up the monotony of the newscast makes it more lively and less depressing.
The days of the super serious, monotonous newscast are over long gone.

I’ll simplify it for admin and those who accept what goes on at 7 as “journalism.” Belkys and Craig lack gravitas. Diwght has it, Laurie does sometimes; Jackie Nespral never had it, Julia Yarbo and Michael Williams (and yes, Tony Segreto) also possess it; Robb Hanrahan has it, but he had to escape 7 to get it. When the quest is more for a story that can be broken down to a silly alliteration than cold, hard truth…too many idiots running the local news down here think 7 is the model because it makes money. It makes money, though, largely because they hire more inexperienced, pliable people and underpay them. It has alwaysbeen thus at 7 because the stationowner is a notorious skinflint. For what its worth, the best reporters and anchors in this town are on long before 5 pm. I’ll take Bob Mayer, Pam Giganti, Mark Schumacher, Danielle Knox and Diane Magnum over pretty muchanyone on in “prime time.”
Admin i have to agree with you 100%. 7 is a station that is fun to watch. THe way that Belkys and Craig interact with each other is very entertaining. Belkys while sometime may be alittle bit annoying she does her job and she does it well. Also Craig does his job well to. If he didn’t why would SVN just have got him to stay for 4 more years? I personally do not like to watch a news cast where its all depressing and one way. I would weahter watch one that Catchs my attention and makes me laugh while at the same time informs me about all the serious news that there is. 7 does a great job at it. IF you dont like craig, belkys, or even wsvn than dont watch plan and simple. Quit your complaining and just turn the channel.
ccc229 I knew what you meant, just don’t try to tell me what I should think!
I believe variety is the spice of life, we can’t (shouldn’t) have 4 stations that are all the same. Actually they are the same in the way and do pretty much the same stories, except the people reading them are different.
I am not in the position to judge how anyone runs their business, what they do is their own responcibility. If 7 is as bad as people say they are then why is everyone sending their tapes there clamoring for a job? Even after being told the oft repeated adage “it’s a sweat shop”!?! Some people have been there for years and years! Palm Beach isn’t that far, there are 4 stations there that I’m sure would have spare room and have them
Your opinion is that Bob Mayer, Pam Giganti, Mark Schumacher, Danielle Knox, Diane Magnum have gravitas. That’s your opinion, they appeal to you. Cool
But they don’t appeal to me. Bob is pleasant to watch, sometimes I tune in and find them very funny with Pam Giganti, especially during the ‘Buzz’ segment. But I just find that broadcast boring. To me 6’s broadcast is boring. That’s my perception and my opinion and it doesn’t mean it’s true for someone else watching them.
I find Dan Rather, and Brian Williams boring too even though those broadcasts are highly informative of what’s going on in the world around me. But so is Countdown on MSNBC, which I watch every night because it’s not boring. Again, to me!
I know nothing of Mark Schumacher, I’m sure he’s hard worker but, again, he doesn’t appeal to me. When I watch him my perception is that he’s telling me what the news is, it’s that way and that’s it. Can’t really describe it. Reminds me a lot certain professors and teachers I’ve had over the years. Still, I’ve watched more of 10’s morning newscast than those of 4 or 6.
So ccc229 you have your own preferences, I have mine, everyone has theirs. 4 stations, 8 anchors to choose from

Obviously there are too many who have confused journalism with entertainment. Fox News Channel is funnier than Comedy Central, and I’m not sure it’s all unintentional. Same for 7. So bad, but not nearly to the level when Rick Sanchez and Sally Fitz were there. Bottom line is entertainment is nice, but when the serious stuff hits the fan, who is going to tell you what you need to know. I prefer 6 most of the time, but if they keep telling me everyday that they will cover the weather to keep me safe without hype, I’m gonna heave. The fact they tell you that every day is hype. So no one’s hands are clean in this or any other market. There is a pervasive fear that if you place journalistic integrity over cheerleaderism and “Entertainment Tonight”-type content it won’t be profitable. Example: I just watched 6’s news, which was a 90 minute infomercial about the Heat game tonight, led by Head Cheerleader Jackie Nespral. Does anyone think Tony Segreto’s years as a sports anchor might serve this story? Compare and contrast with the story I read two weeks ago, and I apologize for not recalling where, but a station fired a reporter for wearing a team T-shirt while covering the team. It seems the news director felt they would not be able to maintain their neutrality if an unpleasant story about the team came out somewhere down the road. Seems a little harsh, but that’s what is missing here. Be sure to tune in next January when 7 news turns into the American Idol pregame show again!
Journalism like politics thrives on fear. No fear no need to watch the news.
I don’t know if people rely on local news stations for real news though – politics, economy etc.
I personally don’t, neither does my boyfriend who doesn’t even watch local news at all, he uses Yahoo! News 100% of the time. Most anyone who I’ve seen watching local news does so for entertainment and most are very cynical about things that get covered on the news.
A lot of people rely on weather from TV stations if they don’t get it online though. I have weatherunderground.com and check it every time it’s raining around here but I still tune in to TV to get the days ahead forecast. Last year during the hurricanes the TV was mostly for noise while we got all the info off of the web including advisories. But TV was needed during post-hurricane coverage even if it was on radio and it still didn’t provide me with the information I needed. Maybe I’m too tied to the web
I watched very little of 7 during Idol, have to agree there it’s Idol overkill and I can’t stand it. Thank God for the DVR, it came handy many times.
I somewhat think things will probably change once the internet starts to enroach more into TV news with customized news and such, although like junk food people would still watch junk TV.
OK — I understand everyone has different tastes and different likes, and would expect to see a variety of favorites around here. But Diane Magnum? Are you kidding me? I am convinced she gets paid by the word because she talks so fast. But what gets me with her is when she interviews someone. It is so clear she is just reading questions, because she always starts the next question before the interviewee has finished answering the last one. And they are often not related, missing the opportunity for a logical followup. To each his own, but Diane Magnum? I don’t think so.
When I started reading these comments 18 ago, I had that same feeling about Mrs. Magnum. I have seen her in action and she is completley rude and although her job can be fast paced (speaking of her days on the 12PM News) , she treates people like slaves that have no feelings. I implore you as Mr. Admin said, vote with your remote, but please dont vote for her.
OK, I must defend Diane Magnum. First of all, I first saw her when she was on the CBS affiliate in Tallahassee, only she was Diane Mangum. The wizards at Post-Newsweek obviously thought an anchor with a name like a gun would be great down here. I think Diane has been prodded to speak faster to compensate for the slight Southern manner she had back in Tally. I don’t know about clipping people’s answers, but I think Tim Russert is the undefeated champ at that. But back to 10. Does anybody think 10 was stronger with Kristi |Krueger, the Stepford Anchor, than with Diane? Kristi is as close to Sally Fitz as we have left in this market, and you all know how much I love Belkys, so that should tell you something. Some anchors improve the other part of their team; others are like lead weights (like Boat Anchors!) who drag the whole broadcast down. I still think the best news people finish their workday before 5 pm. Bob Mayer, the last of Renick’s boys, is just the best, and his blissful tolerance of that mugging whackjob Lonnie Quinn is half the fun. 10’s morning show was good too, but then Wendy Corona left town, and she had really grown on me.
I hate it when Quinn calls Bob Mayer – Robert – “Ok Robert thanks ….”
ugh!
Speaking of 10, do they still let that doll with the shoulder pads and a kilo of make up Julie Summers anchor the mornings as a substitute?
Could not believe she was on a little before or right after Corona left. I watched her in HD and had to turn the channel pronto. Does she ever get messy?
I remember during the hurricanes Summers always looked like she just walked out of the make up room. While Glenna Milberg was all raggedy like they made her crawl thru puddles of water the whole time
I hate when a tv NEWS/WEATHER person has it in their mind that they are comedians or entertainers. So please, someone tell that to L Quinn (retard). You’re not! Anyone else notice how much weight Elita Loresca has lost? She sick? Get well Weaver.
I actually like L.Q. its good to see somebody with so much engery in the morning cause that makes me alittle more wake.
