WESH refreshing their .com, peek at the new IBS design

The NBC affiliate in Orlando have debuted a preview of their upcoming site redesign featuring a new layout and a flash video player with thumbnail previews of stories available for streaming. The site will debut a web only newscast and of course live streaming of Weather Plus.

WESH are using the same third party web site service IBS (Internet Broadcasting Systems) as WPLG and WTVJ so you can expect to see similar design for their websites incorporating their station’s color scheme. IBS provide web site solutions to local tv stations accross the United States, and are ranked third, behind MSNBC and CNN in popularity with 12 million unique viewers monthly.

I wonder how long before we also see any of the locals do newscasts just for the Internet? If that newscast WESH are producing is an IBS fewature chances are both WTVJ and WPLG will have it as well.

The question remains for me, what is WSVN doing? Even their sister station WHDH in Boston has a better site with more video, including archived newscasts. I’ve noticed wsvn.com is now fully based on CSS/XHTML. The formatting of the stories was changed recently and the anchor bios are now displayed via normal links, as opposed to having the pop-up windows that only worked in IE. I’ll venture into guessing they too may be redesigning the site which is a s loooooooong time coming and needs a lot of work and ideas if they are to remain competitve. Such a shame they aren’t taking full advantage of a site with minimal advertising unlike the other guys.
