I have it on good year that the plex redo is slated to begin at the end of the May sweeps. Some people have been notified recently that they’ll be displaced for about 4 weeks untill the 7 News Desk is being worked on. Then it will become the Breaking News Desk, same as the one up in WHDH in Boston. Which might I add looks pretty awesome.
That means the July sweeps will see either a redone newsdesk or whole newsplex in time for the sweeps with possibly new graphics either then or later on.
Would it be impossible for 7 to come up with something not being used in this market already? Don’t WFOR and WPLG have “Breaking News Desk(s).”

And isn’t that their whole thing anyway–being really different, using things like “Just One Station” instead of Only On, or Exclusive, and 7 Sky Force, Instead of Sky 6, or Chopper 4?

Also, different = memorable. However if you look up north at WHDH you’ll see they don’t have 7Skyforce, it’s Sky7. They don’t have Just One Station, it’s Story Only on 7.

From what I’ve seen in their promos it appears to be a Grass Valley 4000 Series switcher w/ 4 buses, 1 Preset/Program, 3 M/Es. Of course that’s just what I’ve seen in the promos. That would mean they would need an external DVE/DME for a lot of the effects they use.
I just found out from a friend who works for Sunbeam, WSVN Channel 7 that they are in talks with ABC/Disney to be purchased. Ed Ansin the owner of WSVN has show an interest in ABC’s offer.. If that happened, we would see a switch on the dials like we did back in 1995 when WCIX Channel 6-CBS, became WFOR News 4, so…could it be we will have WPLG ABC7, and WSVN Fox10 News?…I think that would be a good idea, especially for ABC

i can almost guarantee you, Miranda, that WSVN is not for sale. in fact, word has it that Ed Ansin’s “last will & testament” bans his sons from selling the station to anyone…so i sincerely doubt that he will sell this cash cow.

The answer is ABC!!!!!!!!! And that’s the (highly unlikely) hypothetical situation we’re talking about here. Ansin would NO LONGER own ‘SVN if he sold it to ABC!!!! We’re not talking about an affiliation switch — we’re talking about a station SALE. IF — and that’s a huge if — that were to happen, it would be a 1989-type scenario, NOT a 1995 scenario. WSVN would remain on Ch7, but would carry ABC programming. WPLG would remain Ch 10, but would either go independent or carry Fox programming. That said, I SERIOUSLY doubt Ansin is considering a sale of any type. That shop is a cash cow!!!
