Ex Miami Herald columnist Jim DeFede got fired after his bosses found out he taped Miami Comissioner Art Teele hours before he walked in the newspaper’s lobby and killed himself. Now Peter Wallsten of the LA Times and Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe, both Miami Herald alums have created a blog to lobby the Herald for the reinstatement of Jim DeFede. Journalists For DeFede sent an open letter to Miami Herald bosses to express their dissapointment at how DeFede was treated by Herald bosses and ask that he be given back his position.
There was a petition that was signed by over 500 people a lot, or most of them, journalists from newspapers like the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, The Miami Herald itself. A lot of them alumni of the Herald too.
Some supporters I recognised reading thru the list that signed the petition: very funny guy Dave Barry, Jennifer Santiago from WFOR/UPN33, Ty Kennedy WFOR/UPN33.
(Thanks Gabe)
I don’t care for his left leaning politics but he is great to read.
