BBC World News in the US?

10

(via TVNewser) BrandRepublic is reporting that BBC World have made a deal with BBC America to replace the current half-hour newscasts in the morning with a continious 3 hour block of news. Right now they have a 30-minute BBC World News newscast at 6am, 7am and 8am with some show about movies in between. The change according to the BrandRepublic hints at a possible 24-hour news channel by BBC World News.

Hopefully this is true, it would be nice to have a real news channel for a change with actual news from around the world and not the current infotainment offered by CNN/MSNBC/FOXNews. SKYNews almost launched in the US recently but FOXNews whined it would take viewers away from them and since SKYNews is owned by Newscorp the plug was pulled. I wonder if CNN will ever put CNN International on cable, or maybe they’re afraid CNN’s ratings would sink even lower then they already are 😀

  1. I am all for a BBC channel 24 news channel. FINALLY a newschannel with truthworty, UNBAISED news!!!!!!! Its like heaven in the news. I just hope this 3 hr block on BBCA goes thru the roof so that way they will start a 24 news network. Like Howard Stern said, death to FCC when he switched to Sirrus, im saying Death to FNC, CNN & MSNBC with BBC. They are the best, upon the best. I just hope they get viewers and go off with a bang

And ill end with this, dont any1 comment about this blog if uve never saw thier newscast on BBCA or actually watched BBC News 24 on sat, because ull see how twisted the american news media is. Esp national. And yea sure im going to be an anchor in America but I totally would not agree with the BS they report and how they report it, BBC and overall British media is just far better.

  2. That’s good that BBC is adding more news to BBCA. I have always wanted BBC World in the states 24/7. Canada and the world has it, why can’t we?

CNN does screen CNN International in the U.S. and has before CNNFN was created. CNNFN actually took over CNNI’s satellite feed because CNN decided it CNNI was not necessary for the U.S. 24/7 (Hence why we have 2 CNN News channels, CNN, CNNHN). However CNNI programming was screened late nights and weekends on CNNFN/CNNI as the channel slot was called. Since CNNFN was shutdown CNNI North America took over its slot, but many cable operators did not extend its carriage. Two of the 5 cable operators in Los Angeles carry CNNI 24/7.

I know this because the main reason my parents switched to satellite was to receive more world news channels.

  3. I have to disagree with the notion that the BBC is UNBIASED. To me, their reporting is “LEFT leaning” just like ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN. Those news outlets competes with Foxnews with their RIGHT wing leanings. Over at the UK, SKY News is a knock off of FOX News and they happen to be sister news networks owned by the same guy. I hope there is an UNBIASED news channel, but their aren’t any.

  4. SKYNews has been around for much longer than FNC. It was launched in 1989 and it’s hardly a knock off of FOXNews have you even seen SKY and their product?

  5. Yes and no. I lived in europe at the time Sky news was launched. I use to watch it when we had satellite TV. I was too young to know if it had a “conservative” or “liberal leanings” at the time.
I don’t know how long Newscorp (parent company of FNC) has owned Sky News either. All I can tell you is that during London bombings last July, FNC had many simulcasts with Sky News and FNC’s on air talent kept referring them as their sister news network from the UK. It wouldn’t make sense to me if FNC is linked to a “liberal leaning” news outlet.

Just so you know – the UK media industry is bound by tight regulation that allows no bias or leaning to any political standpoint. A station like Fox News would simply not be allowed in the UK. Ofcom administers this legislation and ensures that any allegations of bias are dealt with. Stations failing to comply can be fined or have their broadcast licences removed. Sky News is probably viewed as the most independent all of UK broadcasters and fiercely defends its impartiality.

The BBC governors act to ensure the BBC is unbiased in all areas of its output.
