  1. she is a great promoter of her culture..
it is great to see minority journalists get recognized
especially those from the caribbean which are seldom recognized in the US by their peers in any category…CHEERS to her!
I AM PROUD OF HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  2. Sure. Good for her indeed. I don’t necessarily think she is all that good notwithstanding it is a good thing to be distinguished from the crowd. I’m wating for the Philipino press to give Elita her props! Now there’s someone with talent. Two big bits of talent beneath tight sweaters. Not everyone can carry such distiguishing marks so well as Elita can. I absolutely love her talents. Hey Now!!!

  3. As a here fellow Caribbean neighbour, I am happy for here. I also hope to see other from the Caribbean in this area where a lot of caribbean people are. Can we get a Jamaican up in here?

  4. Giving minority awards ?? I guess that means she can’t get a “white” one?

We are all just people on this earth….deal with it.

  5. i’m glad it’s not an “award” of any kind, because she surely wouldn’t deserve it. She’s a lousy reporter and an even worse anchor.

  6. reality,
there are many organizations that recognize people within their community..haven’t you heard of the national association of hispanic/black/native american journalists????
to be recognized by your OWN peers is an honor….
If you haven’t looked or studied history….communications, broadcasting began as a white male dominated business…. minorities — this included women too — soon followed…. i agree we are all one planet/world/people but you are not living in reality if you see it that way….. yes… the emmy’s are based on peer talents but those are skewed…. they get anyone and everyone who wants to view the tapes by food… if you have never been in a newsroom then you don’t know how the emmy’s are judged….there are people who take it seriously and critique the entries but typically it is whoever is available and wants to judge can do it….. there are no “white” awards but there are awards to be recognized by ones peers and this is a great accomplishment…. it is what makes this country a melting pot despite people not wanting it to be….

  7. To anonymous:

The good thing about this business is that it is subjective and one person’s star is another person’s least favorite. Neki Mohan is a talented reporter, hard worker and great person to be around. Ask her colleagues. As for the Jamaican representative, Sharon Lawson on NBC 6 is of Jamaican Heritage.

    Peace
